Cressi Frog Plus Fins

Cressi’s latest addition to its extensive line of world renowned fins is the Frog Plus open heel scuba diving fin. The Frog Plus features many of the great characteristics of a traditional paddle fin along with introducing a revolutionary new blade material that is both extremely durable and nearly indestructible. The Frog Plus utilizes Cressi’s patented three material injection molding process. The three materials consist of a nice comfortable rubber on the foot pocket that extends up the side rails of the blade. The second material is the revolutionary new dual density techno polymer which forms the blade, and in conjunction with the third silicone based material creates a channeling effect. The channeling effect is the characteristic of the fin that enables a high level of energy to be transferred in both up and down strokes of the kick pattern. The Frog Plus also incorporates Cressi’s patented positioning of the foot pocket below the blade. This design increases the working surface area of the blade by 20%. The combination of the channeling effect and the foot pocket mounted beneath the blade creates a very powerful and efficient fin with minimal leg strain.  Because of these characteristics, the Frog Plus fin is an ideal choice for the entry level to advanced diver

Cressi has put more than sixty years of experience into designing this fin, using exclusive and patented moulding technology in three different materials. The engineering plastic used for the blade has been carefully chosen to meet the needs of a specific section of the market that requires fins that are not too demanding and can be used without too much muscular effort, for prolonged periods. With their easy kick they are a pleasure to use, regardless of the user’s level of training. They are ideal for those who are trying scuba diving for the first time but also for those who practise the sport occasionally. The shoe pocket is positioned under the blade, a system that is now used by Cressi on all its models to guarantee a larger and more uniform surface area of the blade. The shoe pocket, made from soft elastomers, is extraordinarily comfortable, making the fin easy to put on and take off, even in the water. Along the perimeter of the blade there is a protective profile in elastomer and the adjustable buckles on the strap are anti-release.

NEW EBS STRAP (OPTIONAL)

Cressi has developed this special strap to meet the needs of the most demanding divers, who need a comfortable fastening for their foot but one that is still practical and manageable. Its special amply sized slot makes it very easy to put on, even when wearing thick gloves or three-fingered gloves for winter water. The wrapping section is highly flexible, making adjustments unnecessary, and as a result it’s much easier to get all your equipment right in the first few meters of your descent and the fin stays in place against your foot despite the increase in hydrostatic pressure.

It combines new buckles of an essential and hydrodynamic design, adjustable to all Cressi models, with a brand new adjustable strap made of highly elastic pure latex. The latex is the most elastic material from nature and has the quality to extend until 8 times its own length without breaking and with complete elastic memory, that is to say, recovering its initial length. This on the fin’s strap gives us great advantages:

  • Allows a relationship between comfort of placement and fin’s fixing, over systems with springs, exactly because of its high elastic coefficient (X8 vs. X1.5 of the spring).
  • It eliminates the messy need of adjustment that traditional buckles have, a process that not always guarantees a perfect heel fixing, especially with non-experienced divers or stress situations during the equipping process.
  • It allows, maintaining the flapping comfort, a high pressure level over the heel which is essential to obtain a right energy transmission applied to the fin without energy loss because of the “spring effect”. This is certainly its most significant feature because a strap excessively soft, long or without elastic memory reduces drastically the fin’s efficiency.
  • It’s easily replaceable and essential both conceptually and in its production and assembly.
  • The natural latex used is of greatest quality without burdens to affect on its features and it guarantees a high resistance to usage, saltpeter and sun exposure.

 

Technical Features:

The structure, studied to this new version of the blade basis material, pretends to combine a great solidity with a good water channeling, a protection on the side nerves and a soft forefoot to obtain a comfortable flutter and less erosion due to accidental contact with the sea floor. Furthermore, it uses several technologies common to all other Cressi models:

  • “Foot pocket-under-blade design”: The blade arises from the superior part of the foot pocket, linking solidly the fin to the foot and transmitting all the generated effort while flapping without energy loss through soft areas. This version allows channeling the water from the ankle to the blade’s end, which is different from traditional models, in which the foot pocket doesn’t help to improve. Besides improving the flapping direction, this design provides features between 10% and 15% higher than other similar models on the market.
  • Decreasing blade side thickness to improve the flapping direction and achieve a greater inertia from fin’s end.
  • Reinforced foot pocket on the superior area through an extra thickness and on the sides through two extensions in polypropylene from the blade to avoid the energy dispersion in the process of transmission from the foot to the blade.
  • 360º fast adjustment tilting buckles. They allow the ideal automatic strap positioning during the flapping. A brand new buckle blocking system makes impossible the usual accidental female part release.
 

Technical Specification:

  • Foot pocket with three different volumes, with narrow central area to maintain the foot firmly fixed inside and to make direct and precise the effort transmission foot-foot pocket-blade.
  • Decreasing blade side thickness to improve the flapping direction and achieve a greater inertia from fin’s end. Point with soft thermo rubber to a greater fluttering flow and resistance to erosion.
  • Propylene blade: this material, inherited from apnea fins, has as main feature the extremely rapid energy transmission applied and its great structural rigidity. Frog Plus is made of a new version of low-module propylene that, with a particular structure, combines a great flexibility, softness and resistance to an exigent use (even as renting fin or in diving centers).
  • Foot pocket’s sole with insertions in anti-slide thermo rubber.
  • 360º fast adjustment tilting buckles. They allow the ideal automatic strap positioning during the flapping. A brand new buckle blocking system makes impossible the usual accidental female part release.

 

Materials:

The combination of 3 different materials guarantees the optimization of the requirements in every area of the fin without the need of increasing thickness:

  • Main propylene body: this material, inherited from apnea fins, has as main feature the extremely rapid energy transmission applied and its great structural rigidity. It is applied on the blade and on the internal sandwich sole area. It is really nervous and reactive and facilitates an effective and agile flutter. It has a relationship effort-efficiency clearly superior to traditional materials (natural or thermoplastic rubber, polyurethane, EVA). It also has a great resistance to breaks to the point that Cressi guarantees it lifelong to a sportive usage.
  • Flexible elastomer: it’s applied on the foot pocket and on areas that require flexibility and elasticity, because that influences the diver’s comfort (on the foot pocket’s forefoot, the sole’s interior and the instep area that is in contact with the anckle). It’s also applied on areas that require anti-slip capacity: on the sole (only the floor contact area) and on the blade sides. The fusion of both materials is produced at molecular level and its solidity is guaranteed lifelong to a sportive usage.
  • Compact elastomer: it’s flexible but not elastic. It’s applied on areas that require a rubber composition, anti-slip but strong and of great resistance (on the longitudinal ribs, foot pocket’s sole and foot’s head strap). This material links the energy transmission critical point (the instep) with the nerves in a single piece, avoiding the usual energy loss through extremely flexible components of the foot pocket that produce a heavy and slow flutter that fatigues the instep.
